What to Do in Tonbridge
We have been providing IT support in Tonbridge for many years, so we’re pretty well qualified when it comes to recommending things to do in and around the local area – especially when it comes to food! We love the fact that we are so close to the capital and all that it provides, but sometimes you simply want to keep things local.
So, with this in mind, we decided to put together a short article that will let you in on a few Tonbridge gems that you may not have heard about before. If you’re ready, we’ll get started. Food and drink in Tonbridge As you may have gathered from the intro, food plays a big part in our lives. While each of us in the office has differing tastes and opinions, one thing we can always agree on is that the food in Tonbridge is of an excellent standard. Here we’ll let you in on some of our favorite restaurants and pubs in the local area so you’ll not go hungry when you visit. You can thank us later!
Graze Kitchen and Bar
We love everything about Graze Kitchen and Bar. From the sliders to the homemade ice cream, we adore the lot. Sunday roasts here are of an exceptional standard and the prices are extremely reasonable considering the quality of food that they dish up time after time. Best of all for us in the office, they serve breakfasts! Opening at 9am, Graze has got our stomachs out of trouble on many a weekday.
Kathmandu Valley
Next up is Kathmandu Valley. While this eatery may not look much from the outside, we can assure you that you should disregard your first impressions and give this place a try. The cuisine is billed as Indo-Nepalese and the food is outstanding. The staff are very attentive and really look after you when you eat in and the restaurant also has a take away option, which is something that can come in handy whenever we are stuck in the office late.
The Primrose
If you are looking for the informal setting of a pub but still want to get some hearty fare inside you, The Primrose is where you should head for. This traditional pub is one of our favorite haunts and their home cooked food is inexpensive but of great quality. Amazing value for money.
The Greyhound
A little bit out of town this one, but well worth the effort. The Greyhound has a decent menu and the friendly staff that are happy to chat away as they tell you all about their wide and varied selection of specials that very rarely disappoint. The big open fire makes the place feel very homely and inviting. Beer’s good here, too, which is always a pleasant bonus!
Enough about food, what else is there to do in Tonbridge?
Glad you asked! Tonbridge is a pretty historical place, so there’s plenty to see and do while you are here. The obvious highlight would have to be Tonbridge Castle, a place that gives you the opportunity to step back in time and feel what it would have been like to be in this part of the world 700 years ago. The audio tour is definitely recommended if you really want to immerse yourself in the experience and get the most from your visit.
If getting out in the open air is more your thing, Haysden Country Park is the place for you. Spread across around 65 hectares, Haysden Country Park is situated just to the west of Tonbridge proper and has a nice range of habitats to explore including marshland and woodland. Countryside events are regularly held in the park so be sure to check out the Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s website to see if there is anything going on while you are here.
If you are a fan of stained glass, then a visit to All Saints Church is an absolute must for you. This village church in Tudelely has some amazing Chagall stained glass windows that people travel from miles around to see. If you can pick a sunny day for your visit, the windows will be all the more spectacular, but they are worth the trip whatever the weather.
As you can see, there’s lots to see and do while you are visiting or doing business in Tonbridge, and these are just a few of the places that we recommend. Whatever you decide to do while you are here we’re sure that you’ll enjoy your stay in this wonderful English market town.
